Fuel Can Be The Easiest Part of Your Audit.
The Other 364 Days Can Be Easy, Too.
Bell Performance makes the fuel portion of your compliance audit the easiest part,
while keeping you emergency-ready every day of the year.
The Risk No One Talks About...
If you manage a small to mid-sized healthcare facility that cares for residents, from assisted living and memory care to rehab and skilled nursing homes, you already know backup power is non-negotiable. The generator and its backup fuel are on your checklist, and inspections happen.
But here’s the problem:
Water sneaks into storage tanks.
Microbes multiply.
Sludge builds and injectors foul.
Filters clog.
Fuel degrades silently.

On audit day, everything looks fine. The generator starts. The auditor checks a box.
Then the outage hits months later...
and suddenly you’re facing not just downtime, but compliance violations, financial penalties, and long-term damage to your credibility.
When Fuel Fails...
People Pay the Price
Hollywood Hills, 2017: After Hurricane Irma, 12 elderly residents died when a nursing home’s generator failed and the cooling system shut down.
Louisiana nursing homes: In both Hurricane Katrina (2005) and Hurricane Ida (2021), multiple facilities were forced to evacuate when generators and fuel systems didn’t hold up. In Ida, seven residents died after being moved from powerless nursing homes to a warehouse without adequate backup power.
Florida’s response: Regulators enacted rules shortly after Irma (2017), requiring facilities to maintain safe indoor temperatures for up to 96 hours using backup power. Fines: $1,000 per day.

Research findings: Hundreds of excess nursing home deaths were tied to Irma-related power outages.
Important Note: While these examples come from certain states, the lesson is national. Outages do not respect state lines, and regulators everywhere are raising the bar. Bell Performance supports facilities in all 50 states.
The Assumptions That Create False Confidence
Most facility managers already accept responsibility for fuel. The risk isn’t neglect - it’s the everyday assumptions that can quietly undermine readiness:
“A clean inspection means I’m covered.”
“If it starts today, it will start next month.”
“I had my fuel polished 9 months ago, so it’s ready for use.”
“Diesel fuel doesn’t really change in storage.”
“Our generator vendor’s visit checks this box.”

How likely is your next power outage to happen the week after your compliance audit?
Passing inspection proves you’re ready that day — but will you be just as ready month after month?
Compliance Is a Snapshot. Readiness Is Every Day.
When managed right, fuel isn’t a liability — it’s the simplest part of staying compliant. Inspection proves you’re ready once. True readiness means being ready every time.
True readiness means your fuel is reliable — not just on audit day, but month after month.
